Whether you are visiting our island on vacation or making a life-style move, Koru Village is the center of “things to do”. With so much to offer, Koru Village stays busy all year long. The Avon Fishing Pier opened its doors in 1963 and was the final pier to be built on Hatteras Island. The Avon Fishing Pier is world famous with its many record catches, especially with the giant Red Drum that frequent the waters. Fishing is also made easy, as anglers are not required to purchase a fishing license. Everything you need for a day of fishing can be found at the Avon Pier. All you need to do is stop by for a fun day of fishing or sightseeing and make once in a lifetime memories on the OBX.
North Carolina’s only oceanfront theater, the PapaWack Theater comes alive during the summer with our flagship “Music by the Beach” summer concert series featuring national acts. The PapaWack is truly a “one of a kind”.

Everyone knows what to do when they go to the park. Play or relax. And with the only privately owned park in the entire National Seashore, Kavon Park offers plenty of space for both. Our pirate ship playground is perfect for the “lil” scallywags. A practice putting green is perfect for enjoying a little gold and a pint (rent putters and ball at Pangea Tavern). Pangea Tavern’s “beer garden” is situated next to the park if you want to quench your thirst or take a break in the shade. And lots of rolling green hills to enjoy some Frisbee or take Fido for a walk.

Pirates have been known to roam the globe for as long as history has been told. Pirate’s, despite their sometimes ruthless ways, connected the world by bringing spices and other treasures to the farthest reaches of the globe. Our waters surrounding Cape Hatteras are no stranger to pirates, some even settling down in the small fishing villages and calling them home. Pangea Tavern welcomes all aboard. After all, there is a little pirate in all of us.

Avon Fishing Pier
Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.
